Satisfaction In New Jersey
32" x 80", triptych, mixed media.
New Jersey is a heavily populated state. As the tri-state
area became inundated with malls and commuters, NJ wooed
big business. Industries like oil refineries, chemical
plants and drug manufacturers grew up in places that were
surrounded
by what became sprawling communities. The most important
thing to realize is that every day we trade our
environment to support
our lifestyle through job creation, or the manufacture of
the commodities we desire to own. The waste material this
generated was
usually buried underground on factory property, or land
that was later developed for residential use. When these
health hazards are
discovered, they have to, by law , be cleaned up. The
companies that created the problem usually threatens
bankruptcy or are allowed
to continue their otherwise profitable operations with
the clean-up being paid for at the tax-payer's (victim's)
expense.
Satisfaction in New Jersey is really about the
undercurrent of these things we allowed in order to feel
that our daily life was enhanced
by material possessions until one day when a person is
sick and a family is left wondering where this disease
came from.
Could it be the b(u)y-product of the things that gives us
a higher lifestyle?
The good life is a given in the constant pitch espoused
by the State, the Chamber of Commerce or real estate
agents,
but when this pitch is exaggerated, one has a very
difficult time proving it.
